During a recent engagement with supporters, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni issued a stern warning against vote rigging, emphasizing that the practice is unacceptable and undermines the democratic processes the country continues to build. He cautioned political leaders and aspiring candidates to avoid any form of electoral malpractice, stressing that integrity must guide Uganda’s journey toward the 2026 general elections.
Museveni noted that vote rigging not only distorts the will of the people but also weakens public trust in leadership. He called on the youth—who make up the largest voting bloc—to embrace discipline, patriotism, and honesty as they become more actively involved in national politics. According to the President, young people must be guided by values that strengthen, rather than compromise, Uganda’s political stability.
Community leader Henry Muyodi echoed the President’s concerns, revealing that widespread reports of vote rigging during the NRM primaries had discouraged many citizens from participating in later elections. He urged the ruling party and the Electoral Commission to address these issues to restore confidence among voters.
President Museveni, accompanied by the First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni, waved to large crowds of supporters who turned up for the event. The President reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the upcoming elections are free, fair, and transparent, calling upon all political actors to uphold national interests above personal ambition.
