Kenya’s parliamentary athletics team delivered a strong performance on Monday at the ongoing East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games (EAC-IPG) in Kampala, Uganda, securing a gold medal in the 4x400m relay.
The Kenyan team, captained by Vincent Musyoka, Co-Chairperson of the Bunge Sports Club, clinched victory at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Namboole. Alongside Musyoka, the team included David Ochieng, Dan Wanyama, and Bernard Kitur, who crossed the finish line in a time of 50.8 seconds, outpacing their regional competitors.
This victory underscores Kenya’s dominance in the athletic events at the games, further cementing their position as a force to be reckoned with in the regional sports arena. The win is especially significant as it highlights the growing popularity of sports among East African parliamentarians, who have embraced the games as a means of fostering regional solidarity through friendly competition.
As the East African Inter-Parliamentary Games continue, Kenya’s MPs are looking to build on this success, with several other teams, including the volleyball squad, gearing up for upcoming fixtures against Uganda and other East African nations.
The EAC-IPG, which brings together lawmakers from across East Africa, is being held in Uganda’s capital, Kampala, and has attracted significant attention due to the high level of competition and the role it plays in strengthening ties between the member states.
