Kenyan Family in Shock After Relative Dies Mysteriously in Mozambique and Body is Cremated Abroad

A family in Ebusiralo, Vihiga County, is mourning the mysterious death of their relative, Robert Moses Magotsi, who died in Maputo, Mozambique under unclear circumstances. Magotsi, a mechanical engineer and planning manager in Cape Town, passed away on October 11, 2025 after collapsing following a morning run. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The family received the news from Magotsi’s South African business partner and a woman named Wanjiku, who was living with him in Maputo. As the family prepared to repatriate his body to Nairobi for burial in Kitale, they were shocked to learn that his body had been cremated in Mozambique and the ashes reportedly scattered in the Pacific Ocean.

The family alleges that Wanjiku sold some of Magotsi’s properties and forged his life insurance policy, allegedly naming herself as the beneficiary of the Ksh. 50 million policy. Despite reporting the matter to the CID in Maputo, no arrests have been made so far.

Magotsi was a dual citizen of Kenya and South Africa and owned 51% shares in a solar plant in Limpopo. The family is now appealing to the Kenyan government to work with Mozambican authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death and the unauthorized cremation.

This case has left the Vihiga family in deep despair, as they seek justice and clarity regarding the loss of their loved one.
