KENYA: Three Men Deny Charges of Sexually Assaulting Boys in Mombasa

Three men were charged in a Mombasa court on Saturday August 30, 2025, for sexually assaulting two young boys, one of whom is reported to have a mental disability.

The accused men are Abdalla Omar Athuman (also known as “Babu”), Shukri Aden Ali (also known as “Maalim”), and Salim Chege Rimo (also known as “Rasta”). They appeared before Resident Magistrate Green Odera at the Mombasa Law Courts.

According to the charges, the three men are accused of sodomizing a 15-year-old boy on various dates between August 15 and August 25, 2025, in the Ganjoni area of Mombasa.

They were charged with two main crimes: committing an indecent act by intentionally touching the child and the more serious charge of causing sexual penetration with a minor, which is contrary to Kenya’s Sexual Offences Act.

One of the suspects, Shukri Aden Ali, faced additional, separate charges. He is accused of attempting to defile a 12-year-old boy and committing an indecent act with him sometime between 2024 and August 2025.

All three men pleaded not guilty to all the charges against them.

The prosecutor, Purity Musembi, asked the court to deny the suspects bail. She argued that the crimes are very serious and have caused a lot of anger in the local community. She warned that if released, the suspects’ own lives could be in danger from angry residents.

The magistrate agreed that the issue needed careful consideration. The court ordered the Probation and Aftercare Service to prepare a report to help decide whether it is safe to release the three men on bail before their trial.

The case will be mentioned again on September 15, 2025, to review the bail report and set a date for the hearing.
