KENYA: Raila Condemns Rumours About Governor Orengo’s Health, Urges Unity and Development

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga has strongly criticised individuals who spread false rumours about the health of Siaya Governor James Orengo, calling their actions “primitive” and likening them to witchcraft.

Speaking at Ndori Primary School in Gem, Siaya County, during a fundraising event for the Church of Christ in Africa (CCA), Raila expressed shock at claims that Orengo had resigned or was gravely ill while abroad for over a month.

“I was in constant communication with Governor Orengo during his time outside the country. He was in good health, and now he is back, full of energy,” Raila said, dismissing the propaganda as malicious and harmful.

The ODM leader urged residents to avoid divisive politics and focus on unity and development ahead of the 2027 elections. He emphasized that this period should be used to attract investment and growth, not spread lies.

Raila also highlighted plans to bring investors to Luo Nyanza, citing the upcoming operations of Shanta Gold, a mining company set to start gold extraction in the region.

Governor Orengo, who attended the event, thanked supporters and reassured them that he is healthy and ready to continue serving. He also called for strengthening ODM across the country, stressing the need for resilience even as the party works within the broad-based government framework.

Analysts note that Raila’s remarks reflect growing concern about political misinformation, especially as the country gears up for the 2027 General Election.
