Kenya Endorses Rostam’s $130 Million Taifa Gas Terminal, Paving Way for Africa’s Largest LPG Hub

Kenya has officially backed the construction of Taifa Gas’s $130 million liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) terminal, a major regional investment led by Tanzanian businessman Rostam Aziz, clearing the way for what is expected to become Africa’s largest LPG facility.

The approval marks a significant milestone in East Africa’s pursuit of energy security and cleaner household fuel alternatives. The terminal will enhance LPG availability across the region, reduce reliance on traditional cooking fuels, and strengthen cross-border trade between Kenya and Tanzania.

This development comes after months of technical consultations, regulatory assessments, and bilateral engagements aimed at ensuring the project aligns with Kenya’s energy transition goals.

Kenyan authorities signaled confidence in the project’s economic potential, emphasizing its role in lowering LPG costs for consumers, increasing supply stability, and boosting regional competitiveness.

For Tanzania, the move represents a diplomatic and economic win, as it reinforces the country’s position as a growing energy and logistics hub.

It also showcases expanding private-sector cooperation between the two nations at a time when East Africa is pushing for deeper integration.

Taifa Gas’s new facility is expected to support thousands of jobs during construction and operation, while improving storage capacity for LPG—a crucial step toward promoting cleaner energy solutions for households and industries across the region.

The announcement was reported by The Citizen through Mwananchi Communications Limited (MCL) as part of its coverage of strategic economic developments shaping the East African community.
