East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament Winnie Odinga has strongly dismissed claims by businessman Oketch Salah that he was present during the final moments of her late father, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, describing the assertions as “flat-out lies” and deeply troubling.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday, January 27, Winnie expressed outrage over Salah’s remarks, saying they were false, insensitive, and potentially dangerous given the emotional weight surrounding Raila Odinga’s death.
“I have met Oketch Salah, but I’d like to believe nobody really knows him. To claim that you were there at the time of my father’s death when you were not, and to talk about things that did not occur, is a flat-out lie,” Winnie said. “It is quite dangerous and makes me question his intentions.”
Winnie further called for urgent scrutiny of Salah’s conduct, suggesting that authorities should intervene to establish the truth behind his claims.
“He should be rushed to either Mathare or the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) with immediate effect,” she added.
Her remarks come days after Salah publicly claimed that he was with Raila Odinga from the onset of his illness until his final moments. Salah insisted that his account was truthful, maintaining that he was not seeking sympathy or political relevance.
In his statements, Salah alleged that he offered emotional support to Raila and participated in private conversations during the period of illness—claims Winnie has categorically rejected.
The controversy has sparked public debate, with critics questioning the credibility of Salah’s assertions and calling for restraint when discussing sensitive personal and national matters involving prominent public figures.
