High Stakes for Uganda as They Face Guinea in CHAN 2024 Group C Match

Uganda’s national football team will play a very important game against Guinea in the CHAN 2024 Group C at Mandela National Stadium in Kampala on Friday, August 8, 2025, at 6 PM Kigali Time.

Uganda needs a win badly to stay in the tournament because they lost their first match 3-0 to Algeria, one of the co-hosts of CHAN 2024. Guinea, on the other hand, won their opening game and are feeling confident.

Uganda’s head coach, Morley Byekwaso, asked his players not to focus on the heavy loss to Algeria but to look forward.

“We know it will be a difficult game. We need to win to keep our hopes alive,” Byekwaso said.

“Some of our players are still recovering from injuries, but we hope to have everyone ready. Losing like that is painful, but it is part of football. I believe our fans will support us.”

The day’s other match in Group C will see Algeria take on South Africa earlier at 5 PM, also at Mandela National Stadium.

Uganda’s survival in the tournament depends on beating Guinea. A loss or draw could mean they exit early.
The African Nations Championship (CHAN) is a football tournament featuring players who play in their home countries’ local leagues. It is different from the Africa Cup of Nations because it does not allow players who play abroad.

Uganda will rely on key players like Jonah Kakande, who showed great skill in previous matches. The team hopes to recover quickly from their first defeat and play with confidence in front of their home crowd.

Senegal, the defending champions, won their opening game against Nigeria 1-0.

Other strong teams like Kenya and Morocco started the tournament well with wins.
Hosts Tanzania also won their opening match.

This match is crucial for Uganda as they fight to stay alive in the tournament and make their fans proud on home soil.
