Govt secures Shs422b to buy 10 planes for Uganda Airlines

Uganda Airlines is preparing to grow its fleet with the support of a ₨422.26 billion allocation from the government, part of a larger supplementary budget of ₨1.696 trillion approved last year. The funds are earmarked specifically for the purchase of 10 new aircraft, aimed at addressing operational constraints and strengthening the national carrier’s capacity.

The expansion comes amid ongoing challenges for Uganda Airlines, including financial pressures and governance concerns. Aviation analysts note that the investment could help stabilize operations, improve regional competitiveness, and position the airline for future growth.

Industry observers stress that strategic management and efficient use of the new aircraft will be key to ensuring the additional funding translates into sustainable improvements, rather than temporary fixes.

The government’s renewed commitment reflects a broader effort to enhance national transportation infrastructure while boosting the profile of Uganda Airlines in the East African aviation market.
