Ghanaian Man in Canada Found Dead on Bus Amid Struggles with Immigration and Fraud

A Ghanaian man living in Canada, identified as Wofa Kwabena Emmanuel, has tragically been found dead on a bus after reportedly being swindled by a fellow Ghanaian. The news, shared on December 22, 2025, by Serwaa Broni, a prominent Toronto-based nurse and TikTok personality, has sparked emotional reactions on social media. The situation highlights the immense challenges faced by many undocumented immigrants, particularly Ghanaians, in Canada.

Serwaa Broni, in a heartfelt video posted on TikTok, explained that Wofa Kwabena Emmanuel had been under significant stress due to his undocumented status in Canada. He had paid a fellow Ghanaian individual a large sum of money—between $30,000 and $40,000—believing that this person could help him with his immigration papers. However, he was reportedly scammed, and his money was never used to further his cause.

“Kwabena Emmanuel, may your soul rest in peace,” Serwaa Broni said in the video, expressing her grief. “There are many prominent Ghanaians here in Canada who hide the truth. They receive government support and live in subsidized housing, yet they take money from people, promising to help them with sponsorships or immigration papers, but do nothing to actually help. This is the story of Wofa Kwabena.”

Serwaa Broni continued to describe how Wofa Kwabena struggled to make ends meet. He worked long hours in harsh conditions, including in a cold room for 12-hour shifts, and still worked a second job to survive. His dream had been to bring his wife and children to join him in Canada, but instead, he found himself overwhelmed by the pressures of living in a foreign country with an uncertain future. He had even discussed with others his plans to return to Ghana after being swindled.

Wofa Kwabena reportedly left voice notes for his wife and children, expressing his frustrations and the hardship he was facing. He had hoped to identify the individual responsible for scamming him and retrieve the money to send back to his family in Ghana. But, sadly, it seems that this was not to be.

The story of Wofa Kwabena Emmanuel’s death has deeply affected many people online, especially other Ghanaians living abroad. His situation resonates with those who face similar struggles in foreign countries, dealing with the difficulties of immigration, exploitation, and isolation.

This incident comes just months after another tragic event involving a Ghanaian in Canada. In July 2025, Belinda Sarkodie, a 26-year-old Ghanaian student, was shot and killed at a bus stop in Hamilton, Ontario, in what was believed to be a gang-related shooting.

The death of Wofa Kwabena Emmanuel, along with these other incidents, has sparked discussions about the dangers and hardships faced by Ghanaians living abroad, particularly those who are undocumented. Many are calling for more support and greater awareness of the challenges faced by immigrants in Canada and other foreign nations.

The story of Wofa Kwabena’s untimely death has reminded people of the harsh realities many immigrants face while pursuing a better life far from home.
