Police in Khwisero, Kakamega County, arrested four suspects on Thursday after intercepting a vehicle carrying weapons during the Kisa East Ward by-election.
Officers on patrol stopped a white Toyota Hilux in the Munjiti area and discovered it loaded with stones, clubs, and other crude weapons. The four occupants of the vehicle were immediately taken into custody and transported to the police station for further processing. They are expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.
Increased Security Amid Rising Election Violence
The arrests come at a time when security agencies are on high alert following multiple incidents of violence linked to ongoing by-elections across the country.
Earlier the same day, 16 suspects were arrested in Kasipul Constituency for allegedly attacking Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma during the by-election there. Several other cases of election-related unrest have also been reported in recent weeks.
In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) assured the public that it remains committed to ensuring safety and order during all electoral processes.
“The National Police Service reiterates its unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order across the country,” the NPS said.
Police have urged voters to remain calm and allow electoral officials to carry out their duties without intimidation or violence. They also warned that anyone found planning or participating in acts of disruption will face legal action.
