Dubai International Airport has solidified its position as the world’s busiest hub for international travelers, handling more than 95 million passengers in 2025.
The figures were announced by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, who described the airport as “the lifeblood of Dubai” and a benchmark for service quality and operational efficiency.
Record Operations and Efficiency
During the year, Dubai International processed 454,000 flights. Impressively, 98.8% of arriving passengers completed entry procedures in under 15 minutes, reflecting the airport’s heavy investment in digital border systems, automation, and streamlined passenger flows.
Airlines such as Emirates and flydubai have expanded both long-haul and regional routes, making Dubai a critical interchange for passengers and cargo moving between Asia, Europe, and Africa.
Strategic Role in Global Aviation and Economy
Dubai’s airport growth illustrates the emirate’s reliance on aviation, logistics, tourism, and financial services to diversify its economy beyond oil. The sector has rebounded strongly since the pandemic, benefiting from Dubai’s open-skies policy and strategic location.
Sheikh Mohammed praised the airport’s management team, led by Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, for sustaining growth and maintaining high service standards at one of the world’s busiest hubs.
Future Expansion Plans
Dubai is advancing the long-term expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport, a mega-hub designed to eventually replace Dubai International. Once completed, it will handle up to 260 million passengers annually, further strengthening the emirate’s dominance in global aviation.

For Africa, Dubai International serves as a vital gateway for passengers, cargo, and investment. Direct routes connect major cities such as Lagos, Nairobi, Addis Ababa, Entebbe, and Johannesburg to global markets via the Gulf hub.
