Deadly Delivery: Boda Boda Rider Murdered in South B After iPhone 17 Pro Max Scam

A 30-year-old father of three, Antony Otieno, was found brutally murdered inside Meridian Apartments in South B, Nairobi, in what detectives believe was a carefully planned setup disguised as a high-end phone delivery.

Antony’s body was discovered hidden under a bed, his hands and legs tightly bound and a scarf or cloth stuffed in his mouth. What began as a routine delivery of an iPhone 17 Pro Max ended in a fatal trap.

A Job That Turned Into a Death Trap

According to investigators, Antony left a phone shop in Nairobi’s CBD at around 10:30 a.m. to deliver the device to a customer who had placed the order via WhatsApp. The buyer claimed to be in Eldoret and said his “brother,” identified only as Hillary, would collect the package from the apartment—one that had been booked as a temporary lodging.

Payment was to be made upon delivery.
That was the last time Antony was seen alive.

Two Apartments, Two Crime Scenes

Hours later, authorities located his body not in house no. 72 on the fifth floor, where the delivery was supposed to take place, but in house no. 14 on the fourth floor. His limbs were tied with rope, a leso wrapped tightly around his mouth. Blood pooled beneath him—injuries consistent with blunt force trauma to the head, according to preliminary medical reports.

Inside the apartment, detectives recovered:

A knife

A metal rod, believed to be the murder weapon

Outside, Antony’s motorcycle—registration KMFH 161S—remained parked, untouched.

The Mysterious Booking

The apartment had been booked and paid for in cash, Ksh. 2,500, by two unidentified men only hours before the murder.

Charity Muthoni Michoki, the Airbnb host, told police she received a message around 9:30 a.m. saying the room bill would be settled later in the day. When she came to check the room, one of the men insisted she return later.

What she eventually walked into was horrifying: blood on the floor, the door locked from the outside, and a motionless figure hidden beneath the bed. Neighbors forced the bedroom door open, revealing Antony’s body.

Phone Numbers Under Investigation

The suspects used two phone numbers during the transaction—0108577041 and 0783041879. Both have been forwarded to Safaricom for identity tracing as investigators try to determine whether the killers were part of a larger criminal ring specializing in high-value delivery scams.

Detectives believe the murder was orchestrated under the guise of purchasing an expensive device, luring Antony into a controlled environment where he was overpowered and killed.

Family Left Devastated, Manhunt Underway

Antony’s death leaves behind a grieving wife and three young children. A hardworking boda boda rider, he was known for taking extra shifts to support his family.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as the manhunt for the suspects intensifies.
