My name is Jane Wamugo, and this is the true story of how a mysterious black cat nearly destroyed my life—and how I found hope again.
For over five years, I ran a small but successful shop in Kamenu. I had become a trusted member of the community, known for being honest, generous, and friendly. Life was simple, and my business was doing well—until everything changed one strange morning.
When I arrived at my shop, I found a black cat sitting calmly on the counter. At first, I thought nothing of it. But as I got closer, the cat stared at me with glowing yellow eyes, and I felt a chill run down my spine. In my culture, black cats are often seen as a sign of bad luck or spiritual danger.
I tried to chase it away, but the cat refused to leave. Instead, it hissed angrily and scratched my arm when I approached it.
I screamed for help—but to my surprise, no one came. The street, usually busy at that hour, was eerily silent. It felt like I was trapped in a bad dream.
From that day forward, everything started going wrong. My sales dropped, customers stopped coming, and I began having constant nightmares.
I felt like I was cursed. People in the neighborhood started whispering. Some said someone had bewitched me out of jealousy. Others said the black cat was a bad omen I should have taken seriously.
I began to feel hopeless.
But just when I thought I would lose everything, a friend introduced me to a local pastor who prayed with me and offered emotional support.
I also visited a counselor, who helped me understand that fear can sometimes magnify events in our minds. I realized that whether or not there was a curse, I had the power to take back control.
I cleaned and repainted the shop, changed the layout, and started a small promotion to welcome customers back. Slowly but surely, things began to improve. Old clients returned, and I started attracting new ones.
I still don’t know exactly what the black cat meant, or whether it was just a coincidence—but what I do know is this:
Fear nearly ended my journey. But faith, action, and community saved it.
Sometimes life throws strange and scary events at us. Whether they are spiritual or psychological, the most important thing is how we respond.
When fear takes over, it can cloud our judgment. But with support and courage, even the darkest moments can lead to brighter days.
