Chinese Factory Manager in Eldoret Sparks Outrage After Assaulting Kenyan Worker

A video showing a Chinese manager beating a Kenyan worker at TCM Mabati Factory in Eldoret has caused anger across the country. In the viral clip, the manager is seen kicking and slapping the worker, who tries to protect himself.

The Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) has strongly condemned the incident. In a statement to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, COTU called the assault a serious violation of the worker’s rights and dignity.

The union is now demanding that the Chinese national be deported immediately. They said that failing to act would betray Kenyan workers who expect protection from the government.

COTU also asked the Interior Ministry and the Ministry of Labour to increase inspections and ensure foreign-run companies follow Kenya’s labour laws. They warned that such abuse cannot be allowed in the country.

Surprisingly, the assaulted worker said he has forgiven his supervisor. He explained in a follow-up video that he wants to continue working at the factory and hopes that future disagreements will be resolved peacefully in the office.

This incident comes shortly after COTU raised concerns about another Chinese investor at the Export Processing Zone (EPZ). That investor had reportedly forced Kenyan workers to sing Chinese songs before, during, and after work and even insulted a union official.

Many Kenyans online are now calling for stronger protections for local workers and stricter action against abusive foreign employers.
