Detectives investigating the brutal murder of boda boda rider Anthony Otieno in South B have obtained crucial CCTV footage showing how his suspected killers escaped moments after the crime.
The exclusive footage, now in police custody, captures the suspects fleeing in a silver Nissan Note, registration number KDL 336E, after allegedly killing the delivery rider inside a rented apartment at the Meridian building.
On the day of the incident, Anthony arrived at the building carrying a blue delivery bag containing an iPhone 17 Pro Max he had been sent to deliver. Footage shows him entering the building, taking the elevator to the fourth floor, and making calls to locate his client.
Moments later, cameras capture a man leaving the room using the staircase, still holding the same delivery bag. At 12:02 pm, a second man is seen rushing downstairs, followed by a third man—shirtless—carrying a package and appearing visibly shaken. The suspects appear to hurriedly zip up the bag before leaving.
As the three men exit, the Nissan Note pulls up. Two suspects quickly enter the vehicle, while a woman wearing a cap arrives and is left with some of their luggage.
CCTV recordings from November 16 at 7:22 am show one of the suspects entering the building carrying the same blue bag, accompanied by another man. Later that afternoon, a woman seen with them the following day joins the pair.
On November 17 at 6:46 pm, the same woman is again captured leaving the building with the bag using the elevator.
The room’s owner, Charity Muthoni Michoki, told detectives that she had rented the apartment to one of the suspects after receiving a call from phone number 0108577041, requesting a one-month stay.
On the morning of November 18, at around 9:30 am, the guests sent her a message promising to pay their bill by 4 pm. But during a routine inspection, she encountered one of the suspects, who told her to wait until evening.
Sensing something was wrong, she remained around the building. Moments later, she saw the men leaving with a bag. When they failed to pay, she confiscated the bag and went to inspect the room.
Inside, she found the door locked. After opening it, she saw bloodstains on the floor and alerted neighbors. They later discovered a man’s body pushed under the bed. His hands and feet were tied with rope, and a piece of cloth had been stuffed into his mouth.
The body was confirmed to be that of Anthony Otieno, the delivery rider who had brought the new iPhone to the suspects.
Police are now analyzing CCTV footage and conducting toxicology tests to establish:
The identity of the two main suspects
The full sequence of events leading to Anthony’s death
How the delivery of the iPhone was arranged
So far, detectives have interrogated three people, including:
Anthony’s wife, who had advertised the phone on WhatsApp,
The owner of the room, and soon, the phone shop owner will also be questioned.
The murder occurred only meters from another high-profile killing—that of Starlet Wahu Mwangi, raising additional public concern in the area.
Police are appealing to the public for any information that may help identify or locate the suspects seen in the footage.
