Charlie Kirk, a nationally known conservative commentator and founder of Turning Point USA , was shot and killed Wednesday during a campus appearance at Utah Valley University , according to law enforcement and university officials.
Witnesses said the shooting occurred shortly afternoon during Kirk’s “American Comeback Tour” event on campus. He was taking questions from students under a pop – up tent when a gunshot rang out.
Authorities initially reported that a suspect had been detained but later clarified that no one is currently in custody.Investigators believe the shot may have been fired from a nearby building roughly 200 yards from the event space. The FBI and ATF have joined the investigation alongside local police.
Utah Valley University canceled classes and evacuated campus buildings as a precaution, urging students and staff to remain sheltered until escorted out by law enforcement.
