A 24-year-old Mombasa blogger who says he was kidnapped and sodomized last year now claims he has been abandoned by the Witness Protection Unit, leaving him in danger and without basic needs.
The blogger, who was allegedly abducted on September 12, 2024, by a group of about 20 men — including county officials — says his life changed completely after the attack. He was reportedly beaten, sodomized, and dumped at a garbage site before being forced to apologize for criticizing the Mombasa County Government.
The victim says he spent nine months under the Witness Protection Program, moving between Nairobi, Kakamega, and Embu counties in search of justice. Four people were later charged at the Shanzu Law Courts with abduction and sodomy in connection with the incident.
However, the blogger says things have worsened in the past three months. “Sometimes I go for two days without food. I have injuries, my teeth were broken, and my belongings were stolen. I have nowhere to go,” he said.
According to the victim, officers tricked him into believing they were taking him to Kilifi for a court case scheduled for August 25, 2025. Instead, he was dropped in Mombasa and handed over to his father. “They told my dad I was fine and that I had been terminated from the program. Since then, I’m on my own,” he said.
He also accuses unnamed politicians of using him to attack their rivals during political campaigns, only to abandon him later. “I have learned my lesson. Dirty politics ruined my life. I now ask human rights groups to help me,” he added.
The victim now faces eviction after his host gave him a two-day ultimatum to leave the house. He is pleading for safety and justice. “I am a victim, and God knows what I’m going through,” he said.
Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir earlier dismissed allegations linking him or his family to the attack. He described the claims as “shocking” and said neither he nor his relatives had ever used violence against anyone.
Four suspects — Abdul Athman, Violet Adera, Esther Muthoni, and Haji Babu — have since been charged over the assault.
