Zimbabwe Applauds PAPU Leadership Re-Election at Kampala Conference

Zimbabwe has welcomed the re-election of key leaders within the Pan African Postal Union (PAPU), describing the outcome as a strong vote of confidence in their leadership and vision for Africa’s evolving postal sector.

The country’s Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, Tatenda Mavetera, congratulated Sifundo Moyo on his unopposed re-election as Secretary General of PAPU. She noted that his continued leadership reflects broad trust among member states in his ability to drive transformation across the continent’s postal services.

Mavetera also commended Hope Jessica Ssengooba of Uganda for securing another term as Assistant Secretary General after a competitive election process. She praised Ssengooba’s ongoing contribution to the Union’s growth and institutional strength.

These remarks followed Zimbabwe’s participation in the 11th Ordinary Plenipotentiary Conference of the Pan African Postal Union, held in Kampala. The high-level gathering brought together member states to discuss the future of postal services, with a strong focus on modernization and sector transformation across Africa.

During the conference, Zimbabwe formally concluded its tenure as Chairperson of the Plenipotentiary Conference, handing over leadership responsibilities to the host nation, Uganda.

Mavetera expressed gratitude for the support Zimbabwe received from fellow member states, particularly in relation to Moyo’s re-election and the country’s active role within the International Telecommunication Union development sector.

She reaffirmed Zimbabwe’s commitment to contributing to the advancement of Africa’s postal ecosystem, emphasizing the importance of collaboration, innovation, and sustained modernization efforts across the continent.

The conference outcomes highlight a renewed sense of unity among African nations as they work toward building resilient, efficient, and future-ready postal systems that can support economic growth and digital inclusion.
