President Museveni Steers NRM Caucus on Budget Priorities and Sovereignty Bill

President Yoweri Museveni has guided the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Parliamentary Caucus on key national priorities, including the proposed budget and the Protection of Sovereignty Bill, 2025.

During a meeting held at State House in Entebbe, the caucus endorsed the Shs84.2 trillion budget for the 2026/2027 financial year, which includes a Shs200 fuel levy.

According to a caucus statement, members agreed to prioritize critical sectors such as peace and security, road infrastructure, electricity, railway development, scientific innovation, and preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Additional focus areas include restocking programmes in Teso, Lango, and Acholi, as well as salary enhancements for teachers, technical and vocational education staff, and security personnel.

Government Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua and State Minister for Finance Henry Musasizi confirmed the caucus’s support for the budget, citing its alignment with national development priorities.

Musasizi explained that salary enhancements will be implemented in a phased approach over four years, beginning with a 25 percent increase annually. He added that the budget allocates Shs1.16 trillion for salary increments, Shs918 billion for road infrastructure, and Shs2.38 trillion for major projects, including the Jinja-Kampala expressway.

The meeting also addressed the Protection of Sovereignty Bill, 2025, underscoring the government’s commitment to safeguarding national interests.

The caucus’s endorsement reflects a unified position within the ruling party to advance key development programmes aimed at promoting economic growth, improving public service delivery, and strengthening national stability.
