President William Ruto is set to begin a four-day development tour of the Nyanza region on Friday, March 20, where he will commission a series of key projects across Kisumu, Migori, Homa Bay, and Siaya counties.
During the visit, the Head of State will also host elected leaders from the region at Kisumu State Lodge for discussions on ongoing and planned development initiatives.
Confirming the visit, Nyanza Regional Commissioner Flora Mworoa stated that all security arrangements have been finalized ahead of the President’s arrival.
A major highlight of the tour will take place on Saturday, when President Ruto, alongside Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, will preside over the launch of construction works for Phase 2B of the 369-kilometre Standard Gauge Railway (SGR). The extension will run from Naivasha through Kisumu to Malaba.
Mworoa described the SGR project as a transformative development expected to boost economic growth in the region by improving the movement of goods and people between Nairobi, Kisumu, and Uganda.
On the same day, President Ruto is scheduled to commission a blue economy project at Asat Beach in Seme, launch a road project in Kisumu West, and unveil an affordable housing project in Yala, Gem.
On Sunday, the President will visit Homa Bay County, where he will attend an interdenominational prayer service in Kasipul, inspect the Adiedo-Karabok road project in Karachuonyo, and later commission the Rusinga Ring Roads project in Suba North.
He will also inspect the ongoing construction of the Mamboleo-Chemelil-Kipsitet road, a key infrastructure project linking Kisumu, Nandi, and Kericho counties, expected to enhance trade and support the region’s sugarcane farming sector.
The tour will continue on Monday in Migori County, covering development projects in Kuria East, Kuria West, Ndhiwa, and Uriri constituencies.
President Ruto will conclude his tour on Tuesday in Siaya County, where he is expected to preside over the groundbreaking of the Usenge Pier project by the Kenya Ports Authority and commission an affordable housing project in Nyatike, Migori County.
Mworoa emphasized that the projects are central to transforming the Nyanza region’s development landscape and align with the government’s BETA development plan.
She also urged residents to turn out in large numbers to support the initiatives, while cautioning political leaders against turning the development tour into political contests.
