William Ruto has launched an ambitious five-day development tour across Western Kenya, unveiling a series of infrastructure and housing projects aimed at boosting economic growth and improving livelihoods in the region.
The tour began with his arrival in Kakamega County, where he inspected the ongoing rehabilitation and expansion of the Kakamega Airstrip. The upgrade is expected to enhance regional air connectivity and open up new economic opportunities.
In Busia County, the President initiated several key projects. Among them was the construction of the 13-kilometre Nangina–Sio Port–Okados–Mundere road, a KSh860 million investment set to improve transport and trade between Funyula and Budalang’i constituencies. He also laid the foundation for the Budalang’i Modern Market and officially launched the KSh5.5 billion Nasewa Affordable Housing Project, a 2,000-unit development designed to create jobs and support local industry.
Additional infrastructure efforts included the launch of the Matayos–Namwitsula Bridge–Nawesa CAIIP–Shibale road, aimed at improving connectivity, and a Last Mile Electricity Connectivity project in Mumias East, which will bring power to 161 homes. The government has committed billions more to expand electricity access across Kakamega County.
Further developments were rolled out in Vihiga County, where road rehabilitation projects were launched to improve mobility and support economic activity. In Kakamega, the President also initiated the solarisation and rehabilitation of the Shitoli Water Project, expected to provide clean and reliable water to over 45,000 residents.
Beyond project launches, President Ruto used the platform to address the political climate, urging leaders to move away from divisive rhetoric and focus on tangible solutions for citizens. He challenged his critics to present clear development plans, emphasizing that Kenyans are increasingly able to distinguish between meaningful leadership and political theatrics.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to nationwide transformation through investments in housing, infrastructure, healthcare, and education, stressing that no region will be left behind.
Local leaders, including governors and cabinet officials, welcomed the projects, noting their potential to transform lives and stimulate economic growth across Western Kenya.
Overall, the tour underscores the government’s focus on development-driven leadership, with a strong emphasis on infrastructure, job creation, and inclusive progress.
