Batilda Burian has announced that Tanzania is preparing to begin local production of ambulances in a move aimed at strengthening the country’s emergency health services.
Speaking in Tanga, Burian said the initiative will help improve the availability of ambulances across the country while reducing the costs associated with importing emergency medical vehicles.
The project is expected to support the government’s wider efforts to improve healthcare delivery, especially in rural and underserved areas where access to emergency transport remains limited.
Local production will also contribute to the growth of Tanzania’s manufacturing sector by creating jobs and encouraging the use of local skills and technology.
Authorities say the initiative aligns with the government’s broader strategy to promote industrial development and strengthen the national health system. Once production begins, the ambulances will be distributed to hospitals and health centres across the country to improve emergency response and patient transport.
Officials believe the move will significantly improve the speed and efficiency of medical services, particularly during emergencies when timely transportation to health facilities is critical.
