KQ Suspends Dubai and Sharjah Flights as UAE Closes Airspace Amid Regional Escalation

Kenya Airways (KQ) has temporarily suspended all passenger and cargo flights to Dubai and Sharjah following the closure of United Arab Emirates (UAE) airspace amid rising regional tensions.

In a customer advisory issued on Saturday, February 28, 2026, the national carrier said the suspension will remain in effect until further notice, citing safety and security concerns for passengers and crew.

As a result of the disruption, flights KQ310 and KQ305, alongside all scheduled freighter services operating on the affected routes, have been cancelled.

The airline apologised for the inconvenience caused and assured customers that affected passengers would be contacted directly to arrange alternative travel options, rebooking, or refunds where applicable.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience and understanding. We will communicate and engage directly with affected customers and provide them with the necessary assistance,” the airline said in a statement.

Passengers have been advised to monitor the latest flight updates via the Kenya Airways website, mobile application, or customer care channels.

Regional Tensions Disrupt Air Travel

The suspension comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East following reported military strikes involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. The situation has triggered retaliatory actions across the region, prompting multiple Gulf nations to tighten security and temporarily close their airspace.

Beyond the UAE, several other countries — including Iran, Israel, Iraq, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait — have also announced partial or full airspace closures, significantly disrupting regional and international flight operations.

The widespread closures have forced airlines worldwide to cancel flights, reroute aircraft, and review safety protocols as the conflict unfolds.

Kenya Airways said it continues to monitor developments closely and will resume normal operations once it is deemed safe to do so.

The airline urged travellers planning to fly to or through the Gulf region to remain flexible and stay informed as the situation evolves.
