President William Ruto has celebrated a major political victory after the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) won all seats it contested in the February 26 by-elections.
The party fielded candidates in four mini-polls: one parliamentary seat and three ward representative positions. UDA emerged victorious in all races, strengthening its position ahead of the 2027 General Election.
How UDA Performed
In the Isiolo South parliamentary by-election, UDA candidate Mohamed Tubi won with 7,352 votes. He defeated Bina Mohammed of the Jubilee Party, who received 634 votes, and Isack Abduba Fayo of the National Economic Development Party, who got 44 votes. Tubi was declared the Member of Parliament-elect and awarded the official certificate.
In the ward contests:
Duncan Muratia of UDA won the Evurore ward seat with 7,853 votes.
Peterson Njau secured the Muminji ward seat with 3,207 votes.
Elphas Shalakha clinched the West Kabras ward seat with 3,317 votes.
The victories marked a clean sweep for UDA in all four areas.
Ruto’s Reaction
President Ruto praised voters in Isiolo South, Evurore, Muminji, and West Kabras for supporting the ruling party. He described the outcome as proof that Kenyans still have confidence in UDA’s leadership and development agenda.
According to the president, the results show that the party is “on course” to building a strong national political movement that will shape Kenya’s future for generations. He congratulated the winning candidates and thanked party members across the country for their loyalty and commitment.
Ruto also suggested that the by-election success could be a preview of the 2027 General Election, where he is expected to defend his presidency on a UDA ticket.
UDA’s Growing Influence
UDA has continued to expand its political base since it was formed in 2021. The party performed strongly in the 2022 General Election, which saw Ruto elected president after breaking away from the Jubilee Party.
The party has also recorded wins in previous by-elections, including key parliamentary and senatorial seats. Recently, the Amani National Congress (ANC), led by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, dissolved and merged with UDA, further strengthening the party’s numbers.
Ruto is also seeking broader political partnerships to consolidate support. He has expressed interest in closer cooperation with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), urging the party to strengthen its structures ahead of 2027.
Looking Ahead
With the latest by-election victories, UDA has reinforced its presence at both parliamentary and grassroots levels. The results give the ruling party momentum as it prepares for the next general election cycle.
For President Ruto, the message is clear: the by-election outcome is not just a local win, but a sign that his party is positioning itself for continued national dominance in 2027.
