Tanzania Issues Public Health Alert as Covid-19, Influenza and Dengue Cases Rise

The Government of Tanzania has issued a public health alert following an increase in cases of Covid-19, influenza, and dengue fever in different parts of the country.

Health authorities said surveillance systems have detected a rise in respiratory infections linked to Covid-19 and seasonal influenza, alongside growing dengue cases in some regions. Officials warned that the situation could worsen if preventive measures are not strictly followed.

The Ministry of Health urged the public to remain vigilant by observing basic health guidelines. These include regular handwashing, wearing masks in crowded places when experiencing flu-like symptoms, and seeking medical attention early.

Dengue fever, which is spread by mosquito bites, has also become a concern, especially in urban areas. Citizens have been advised to clear stagnant water around homes, use mosquito nets, and seek treatment immediately if they experience high fever, severe headache, joint pain, or skin rashes.

Health experts say seasonal weather changes may be contributing to the rise in infections. Increased travel and public gatherings have also been linked to the spread of respiratory illnesses.

The government reassured the public that health facilities are on alert and response systems have been strengthened to manage the cases. Officials emphasized that early detection, community awareness, and cooperation are key to preventing further spread.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and have promised to provide regular updates if necessary.
