KENYA: Narok South Community in Shock After 14-Year-Old Girl Dies Following Alleged Beating

Residents of Emitik Village in Sogoo Ward, Narok South Constituency, are mourning the tragic death of a 14-year-old girl who reportedly died after being punished at home.

The girl, identified as Peris Chepng’eno, was a Grade Seven pupil at Kijapa Primary School. Her sudden death has left family members, classmates, and teachers in deep sorrow.

According to witnesses, including the area chief and the girl’s uncle, Peris was allegedly beaten by her mother and sister over what were described as household-related mistakes. During the incident, she is said to have collapsed and lost consciousness.

She was reportedly rushed for medical help, but her condition worsened. Authorities later confirmed her death.

Police officers have arrested the girl’s mother and sister. The two suspects are being held at Ololulung’a Police Station and are expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.

Peris’ body has been taken to Longisa Hospital Mortuary in Bomet County. A post-mortem examination will be carried out to determine the exact cause of death.

Local leaders have urged residents to remain calm and allow the law to take its course. They have also called on parents and guardians to use non-violent methods when disciplining children, emphasizing that corporal punishment can have serious and sometimes fatal consequences.

The incident has sparked renewed concern in Narok South, where cases of residents taking extreme measures in handling domestic disputes and discipline have been reported in recent months.

Community members and child rights advocates are now calling for greater awareness on child protection and parenting education to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

As investigations continue, the community hopes justice will be served and that the heartbreaking loss of young Peris Chepng’eno will serve as a lesson on the importance of protecting children from violence.
