Over 400 Tanzanian Companies Cleared to Export Agricultural Produce to China

More than 400 Tanzanian companies have been approved to export agricultural produce to China, marking a major boost for the country’s trade and farming sector.

The approval was announced by the Director of the Tanzania Plant Health and Pesticides Authority (TPHPA), Prof Joseph Ndunguru. He said the move follows successful inspections and compliance with China’s strict plant health and safety standards.

The approved companies will export products such as avocados, sesame seeds, cashew nuts, beans, spices, and other horticultural produce. China is one of the world’s largest food markets, and access to it is expected to increase demand for Tanzanian farm products.

Prof Ndunguru explained that the approval process involved extensive training of farmers and exporters, farm inspections, and certification to ensure the produce meets international quality requirements.

“This is a big opportunity for farmers, exporters, and the country’s economy. It will help increase foreign exchange earnings and create more jobs along the agricultural value chain,” he said.

The development comes as Tanzania and China continue to strengthen trade relations, especially in agriculture. In recent years, the government has invested in improving export systems, plant health controls, and farmer awareness to meet global market standards.

Authorities have encouraged more exporters to apply for certification, saying additional approvals are expected as more firms meet the required standards.

The government believes the move will not only expand Tanzania’s presence in the Chinese market but also improve incomes for farmers and support long-term agricultural growth.
