Uganda’s Electoral Commission has declared President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa the winner of the 2026 presidential election, extending his long-standing leadership following polls held on January 15, 2026.
Announcing the final results on Saturday evening, Electoral Commission chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama said Museveni had secured a decisive victory after a nationwide vote.
“The Commission hereby declares the candidate Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni as the President-elect,” Justice Byabakama said.
He also congratulated Ugandans for the peaceful completion of the electoral process.
“The Commission wishes to congratulate the people of Uganda on the successful conduct of the presidential elections, which concluded on 15th January 2026,” he added.
Final Results
According to the officially released results, President Museveni garnered 7,946,722 votes, representing 71.65 percent of the total votes cast.
The Electoral Commission reported that 11,662,201 votes were cast nationwide.
Museveni’s closest challenger, National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, finished second with 2,601,150 votes, accounting for 24.26 percent of the total vote.
Provisional vs Final Tallies
Earlier provisional results released during the vote-counting process had shown Museveni leading with more than 7.6 million votes, translating to about 71.8 percent. These figures were later slightly adjusted following the final national tally and verification process.
Electoral Commission’s Position
The Electoral Commission maintained that the 2026 presidential elections were conducted in line with the law and that the results reflected the will of the Ugandan electorate.
The declaration officially confirms Museveni’s continued presidency after another decisive electoral victory.
