UTB Assures Tourists of Safety as Uganda Maintains Peace During Election Period

The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) has assured local and international visitors that the country remains peaceful, secure and fully open for tourism despite the ongoing election period.

In a statement issued ahead of the general elections, UTB said Uganda continues to enjoy a calm and stable environment across all major tourism destinations. These include national parks, wildlife reserves, cultural and heritage sites, urban centres, adventure tourism locations, as well as hotels, lodges and other hospitality establishments.

According to UTB, tourism activities are proceeding normally, with tour operators, accommodation facilities, attractions and transport services operating without any disruption. The Board emphasised that visitors can continue to explore the country with confidence.

“The Government of Uganda has put in place adequate security measures to ensure the safety of citizens and visitors across the country on election day and beyond,” UTB said. The Board added that it is working closely with relevant government agencies and private sector players to guarantee seamless and safe visitor experiences throughout the country.

UTB encouraged tourists planning to visit Uganda to proceed with their travel arrangements as scheduled, noting that the country’s tourism sector remains fully functional.

Uganda is scheduled to hold its general elections on January 15, with security agencies assuring both citizens and visitors of peace and stability before, during and after the polls.

The country has enjoyed uninterrupted stability for nearly four decades, a factor that has supported the steady growth of its tourism industry and reinforced Uganda’s image as a safe and attractive destination—popularly known as the Pearl of Africa.
