President Yoweri Museveni has warned students against engaging in violence during the ongoing election period, saying unrest only destroys public property and undermines national development.
Addressing leaders of the Inter-University Guild Leaders Network in Kampala, Museveni emphasised that public infrastructure such as roads, schools, hospitals and utilities is funded by taxpayers and should not be destroyed in the name of political activism.
He urged students to express their political views peacefully and through lawful channels, noting that violence often harms innocent citizens and stalls economic progress.
Museveni also reminded the student leaders of their role as future leaders, calling on them to promote tolerance, dialogue and unity as the country heads toward the January 15, 2026 general elections.
The President’s remarks come amid heightened political activity across the country, with security agencies repeatedly urging calm and peaceful participation in the electoral process.
