New American Center in Kampala Promises to Strengthen U.S.-Uganda Ties Through Education and Innovation

The United States Embassy in Uganda has officially opened the American Center Kampala, a dynamic space designed to foster learning, innovation, and cultural exchange. Inaugurated by U.S. Ambassador William Popp, the center highlights the enduring partnership between the two nations, with a focus on education, opportunity, and people-to-people connections.

As part of the celebration of America250, marking the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence, the new center offers a range of resources including a lending library, computer lab, 3D printing facilities, and free Wi-Fi. These facilities are open to the public, particularly students, entrepreneurs, and lifelong learners eager to engage in skills development and cross-cultural dialogue.

Ambassador Popp emphasized that the center reflects the core values of liberty, self-governance, and innovation that have shaped the U.S. since its founding. He invited Ugandans to make full use of the center’s resources in order to build a brighter future rooted in knowledge and opportunity.

The impact of the center has already been significant, with over 8,000 visitors accessing its services in the past year. More than 500 Ugandans have graduated from the Workforce Accelerator Program, while 300 participants have completed the Foreign Policy Executive Program—demonstrating the center’s role as an incubator for growth and learning.

Adding a local touch to the center’s visual identity, Mandela Washington Fellows Emmanuel Ssekkito and Humphrey Nabimanya contributed to the design of murals and interior spaces, showcasing Uganda’s talent and creativity.

As the American Center grows, it is set to become a vibrant hub for collaboration and innovation, further strengthening the partnership between the United States and Uganda, and fostering lasting educational exchanges that benefit both nations.
