Nairobi Hosts Major Construction Expo as Kenya’s Building Sector Grows

More than 9,600 construction professionals gathered in Nairobi for the 8th edition of Big 5 Construct Kenya, showing strong growth in the country’s construction industry. The three-day event was held at the Sarit Expo Centre and attracted builders, engineers, architects, developers, suppliers, and government officials from Kenya and across the world.

According to the organisers, a total of 9,637 people attended the exhibition. Over 120 brands from more than 20 countries took part, making the event one of the biggest construction trade shows in the region. Companies came from countries such as India, Egypt, Germany, Italy, China, and the United Arab Emirates.

The high turnout reflects the continued expansion of Kenya’s construction sector. The industry now contributes more than 6.14 percent to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This growth is mainly driven by investments in roads, housing projects, and public infrastructure under Kenya’s Vision 2030 development plan.

Inside the exhibition halls, companies displayed construction tools, building materials, interior finishes, concrete products, mechanical and electrical systems, and modern construction technologies. The event provided a platform for businesses to source new products, form partnerships, and explore new markets.

The Egypt Pavilion stood out as a key area for international cooperation. The Egyptian Trade Representative Office in Nairobi helped connect Kenyan companies with Egyptian firms. Several business meetings were held, strengthening trade relations between the two countries. Egyptian exports to Kenya reached $333.1 million in 2024, and organisers said there are more opportunities for joint projects in construction and infrastructure.

Training and learning were also a major part of the event. More than 1,600 professionals attended over 25 CPD-certified Big 5 Talks. These sessions covered topics such as project management, safety, engineering, architecture, sustainability, and the use of new technologies like drones, smart sensors, robotics, and digital monitoring systems on construction sites.

Industry bodies such as the Institute of Engineers Kenya, Architectural Association of Kenya, Kenya Green Building Society, and others supported the discussions and knowledge-sharing sessions.

Speaking after the event, Josine Heijmans, Senior Vice President at dmg events, said the strong attendance showed the importance of Big 5 Construct Kenya to the industry. She added that the organisers are excited to build on this success.

The organisers confirmed that the 9th edition of Big 5 Construct Kenya will be held at the Sarit Expo Centre from October 21 to 23, 2026, as the exhibition continues to support growth, learning, and networking in Kenya’s construction sector.
