The Hoima Multipurpose Sports Complex was officially handed over to President Yoweri Museveni on Thursday evening, marking a significant milestone in Uganda’s preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The project, completed by Summa Construction Company, was finished four months ahead of schedule, thanks to round-the-clock work shifts by the construction team.
The modern facility, located in Hoima District, is one of the key venues that will host the upcoming 2027 AFCON tournament. It features a state-of-the-art 20,000-seat stadium, which will serve as the centerpiece for large-scale football matches. In addition to the football stadium, the complex includes indoor basketball and netball courts, a swimming pool, and a rugby pitch, making it a versatile venue for multiple sports.
Summa Construction, known for its efficient work, completed the 12-month project in just 8 months, showcasing a high level of dedication and commitment to meeting the tight deadline.

“This is a great achievement for Uganda, and it demonstrates our commitment to hosting major international sporting events like the Africa Cup of Nations. The Hoima Multipurpose Sports Complex will not only serve our athletes but also create opportunities for local communities and contribute to our tourism sector,” President Museveni said.
