On December 24, 2025, President Yoweri Museveni, alongside First Lady Janet Kataha Museveni, officially commissioned the state-of-the-art Hoima City Stadium in a grand ceremony.
The stadium, valued at USD 130 million, is a key part of Uganda’s preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Uganda will co-host with Kenya and Tanzania.
The newly completed facility is expected to play a significant role in the upcoming continental football tournament, which will showcase the best teams from across Africa.
The Hoima City Stadium is among the major infrastructure projects being developed in Uganda as part of the country’s commitment to hosting a world-class AFCON event.
In his speech during the commissioning ceremony, President Museveni highlighted the importance of sports in fostering national pride and unity.
He expressed his excitement about Uganda’s preparations for the tournament, emphasizing that the new stadium will not only serve as a hub for sports but will also contribute to the local economy by creating jobs and attracting tourists.
