Uganda Launches 10 Distinct Coffee Profiles as Production Hits 20-Year High

Uganda has unveiled 10 new coffee profiles as part of efforts to strengthen its position in the global coffee market and increase export earnings.

The move highlights the growing importance of Northern and Eastern Uganda as major coffee production zones. These regions have benefited from the distribution of millions of disease-resistant seedlings, the use of organic fertilizers, and expanded agricultural extension services.

Uganda closed the last coffee year with production of 8.2 million bags, the highest level in more than two decades. Coffee exports earned the country about $2.2 billion, underlining the crop’s importance to the national economy.

The new coffee profiles are expected to help Uganda market its coffee more effectively by showcasing different taste characteristics linked to specific growing regions. This approach aims to attract premium buyers and improve incomes for farmers.
