The Uganda Development Bank (UDB) has trained dozens of small and medium business owners in the Ankole region to help them grow stronger and more sustainable businesses.
Through its Enterprise Development Programme, UDB commissioned a new group of 45 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Mbarara District after they successfully completed a two-month intensive training programme. The training focused on key business skills that many entrepreneurs in Uganda struggle with.
Participants were trained in building an entrepreneurial mindset, bookkeeping, budgeting, and business planning. These skills are meant to help business owners manage their finances better, plan for growth, and become investor-ready, making it easier for them to access financing and expand their operations.
UDB officials said the programme is part of the bank’s wider effort to support private sector growth, job creation, and economic development across the country. By strengthening SMEs, the bank aims to improve business survival rates and increase access to affordable financing.
So far, 329 SMEs have benefited from the programme in different parts of Uganda, including Kampala, Gulu, Mbale, Arua, Lira, Fort Portal, and Mbarara. UDB plans to continue rolling out similar trainings in other regions to reach more entrepreneurs.
The Ankole training comes at a time when small businesses play a crucial role in Uganda’s economy, providing employment and supporting local communities. UDB says it remains committed to equipping entrepreneurs with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed.
