Popular South African Radio Presenter DJ Warras Shot Dead in Johannesburg

South African radio and television presenter DJ Warras has been shot dead in Johannesburg, police have confirmed. The killing happened on Tuesday night in Johannesburg Central and has shocked fans and the media industry.

DJ Warras, whose real name was Warrick Stock, was a well-known media personality and music producer. He previously worked with popular platforms including 5FM and CliffCentral, where he helped produce radio shows and supported upcoming talent.

According to police, the shooting happened shortly after he parked his vehicle. Police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said three unknown suspects approached him and opened fire. The attackers then ran away from the scene on foot.

“The motive for the shooting is not yet known, and no arrests have been made so far,” Sibeko said. Police have launched an investigation and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) also confirmed the incident. Superintendent Xolani Fihla said JMPD officers were the first to respond after members of the public stopped them and reported the shooting. Emergency services arrived later, but DJ Warras was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities are still trying to establish whether the killing was a targeted attack or linked to crime in the area. Johannesburg Central has recorded several violent incidents in recent months, raising concerns about public safety.

Tributes have begun pouring in from colleagues, musicians, and fans who described DJ Warras as passionate, creative, and supportive of young artists. Many expressed sadness and anger over the growing cases of gun violence in South Africa.

Police say investigations are ongoing, and they will share more details once suspects are identified or arrests are made.
