President Suluhu Unveils New Cabinet, Appoints Daughter and Kikwete’s Son to Key Roles

Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Monday announced a new Cabinet that will serve alongside her during her second term in office, introducing a mix of fresh leadership and political continuity.

In a televised address from Chamwino State House in Dodoma, President Samia revealed the appointment of 27 ministers and 29 deputy ministers, emphasizing her administration’s commitment to serving Tanzanians with integrity, dedication, and accountability.

Among the most notable appointments was her daughter, Wamu Hafidh Ameir, who was named Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Technology. Wamu, 43, is the Member of Parliament for Makunduchi Constituency in Zanzibar and retained her seat under the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) during the October 29, 2025 general election.

President Samia also appointed Ridhiwani Jakaya Kikwete, the son of Tanzania’s fourth President, as the Minister of Public Service Management and Good Governance in the President’s Office. Ridhiwani, 46, is the CCM legislator for Chalinze Constituency in the Pwani region. His father, former President Jakaya Kikwete, is widely acknowledged for having played a significant role in President Samia’s political rise within CCM and the national leadership.

Speaking during the announcement, President Samia noted:
“This responsibility is both a duty and a debt that we must repay to the people by serving them with passion, hard work, and great integrity. I wish you all the best. May God guide and lead you.”

In another major change, President Samia appointed Khamis Mussa Omar, Tanzania’s Ambassador to China, as the new Minister of Finance, signaling an economic team reshuffle with a focus on strengthening international partnerships and fiscal stability.

However, the new Cabinet also marked a significant departure from her previous administration, with at least seven ministers dropped. Those relieved of their duties include:

Dr. Doto Biteko – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy

Hussein Bashe – Minister of Agriculture

Innocent Bashungwa – Minister of Home Affairs

Jenista Mhagama – Minister of Health

Dr. Seleman Jafo – Minister of Industries and Trade

Dr. Pindi Chana – Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism

Dr. Damas Ndumbaro – Minister of Constitution and Legal Affairs

The newly appointed ministers and deputies were officially sworn in on Tuesday morning at Chamwino State House, marking the formal start of their service in the new administration.
