Ruto Calls on Diaspora to Drive Kenya’s Leap from Third World to Developed Nation

President William Ruto, speaking at the UN Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha, Qatar, urged Kenyans in the diaspora to rally behind his vision of transforming Kenya from a Third World country to a developed nation.

He highlighted the significant role of the diaspora, which remitted $5 billion last year, in driving the country’s economic growth. Ruto emphasized the work ethic of Kenyans abroad and called for this spirit to be harnessed for national development.

During the summit, he discussed Kenya’s progress in various sectors, including agriculture reforms that boosted food production and sugar output.

He also announced plans to reduce the high cost of remittances, currently between 5% and 7%, by working with financial institutions to find more affordable mechanisms for sending money home.

Ruto met with His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar, to strengthen bilateral ties and seek expanded Qatari investment in Kenya’s infrastructure, agriculture, and other strategic sectors.

The President also called for global reforms to ensure Africa’s stronger representation in international organizations and fairer financial systems.

Kenyans in Qatar expressed readiness to partner with the government towards Kenya’s socio-economic transformation, reflecting a shared commitment to inclusive growth and development
