East Africa Launches Study to Improve One Network Area Implementation

East African officials have launched a new study to guide the implementation of the One Network Area (ONA), a project aimed at improving communication and mobile connectivity across the region.

The study seeks to identify challenges, opportunities, and strategies to make cross-border mobile services seamless for consumers and businesses.

The One Network Area allows users to make calls, send messages, and access data across East African countries without extra roaming charges. However, technical challenges and regulatory differences have slowed its full adoption.

The study will provide recommendations to harmonize policies, strengthen infrastructure, and ensure fair competition among telecom operators.

The project is expected to benefit millions of mobile users, enhance regional trade, and attract investment by creating a more connected East African market.

Officials say the findings will be shared with the East African Community (EAC) Secretariat and telecom providers to accelerate ONA rollout and improve service quality.

This initiative underscores the commitment of East African nations to regional integration, digital innovation, and accessible communication for all citizens.
