Woman Who Used Witchcraft to Scam Kenyans Finally Caught

For years, residents of Kiambu, Nairobi, and Murang’a counties have been unknowingly giving money to a woman who claimed to be seriously ill. She would move from market to market and even knock on doors in residential estates, begging for help while pretending to be very sick.

With fake tears and heartbreaking stories, she managed to convince many people—including boda boda riders, market women (mama mbogas), churchgoers, and business owners—to give her money out of sympathy. Some even prayed for her and brought her food.

But recently, the truth came out.
This woman was not sick at all. According to witnesses and local reports, she was using dark forces (witchcraft) to weaken people’s resistance and make them feel forced to give her money. Those who gave her money often said they didn’t even understand why they did it—they just felt like they had no choice.

“She came to our market crying and telling us about her condition. I felt sorry for her and gave her something, but later I realized I had given her more than I could afford,” said one market vendor.

After many years of moving from one place to another, her luck finally ran out when one of her former victims saw her repeating the same act in a different area. Suspicious, they informed local authorities and neighbors, who followed and confronted her.

Under pressure, the woman admitted to using spiritual means to influence people’s minds. Local leaders have warned residents to be careful of such individuals and report any suspicious activity to the police.
The incident has left many in shock, especially those who were scammed. Some are now wondering if they can ever trust street beggars again.
