Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has praised Chinese investment for playing a major role in transforming Uganda’s industrial sector.
During a visit to the Sino-Uganda Mbale Industrial Park in the eastern city of Mbale on August 29, 2025, President Museveni highlighted how Chinese-funded industrial parks and factories are helping drive the country’s economic development.
“These investments are crucial for Uganda’s industrial transformation,” Museveni said, noting that the industrial park is a key example of successful cooperation between Uganda and China.
The Mbale Industrial Park hosts several factories, including a timber paper factory that is expected to create jobs and boost local manufacturing.
President Museveni emphasized the importance of industrialization in creating employment, increasing exports, and reducing Uganda’s reliance on imports.
Chinese companies have invested in various sectors across Uganda, including manufacturing, energy, and infrastructure. This partnership is part of China’s broader Belt and Road Initiative aimed at boosting development in Africa.
The visit comes amid growing economic ties between Uganda and China, with several industrial parks being developed in the country. These parks provide a platform for technology transfer, skills development, and increased productivity.
President Museveni also pointed out that the government is committed to supporting such investments through favorable policies and infrastructure development.
As Uganda seeks to industrialize and modernize its economy, partnerships like those with China are expected to play a vital role in achieving the country’s development goals.
“Our focus is on sustainable growth that benefits Ugandans and creates a vibrant industrial economy,” Museveni added.
Chinese-funded industrial parks like the one in Mbale are key to Uganda’s plan for economic growth. President Museveni’s visit underscores the importance of international investment and cooperation in transforming Uganda’s industrial landscape.
