President Museveni Urges Wakiso Residents to Elect NRM Leaders to Boost Development Ahead of 2026 Elections

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called on voters in Wakiso District to choose leaders from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the upcoming 2026 general elections. Speaking at a public rally in Nabweru, Nansana Municipality, Museveni stressed the importance of electing Members of Parliament (MPs) who will actively follow up on government development projects and ensure that allocated funds reach the people.

“In the coming elections, please elect MPs who demand what belongs to you. I’m in government, but I’m far from you. You need representatives who track the money we send to support you,” he said.

The rally was part of President Museveni’s ongoing assessment tour on wealth creation and the Parish Development Model (PDM) in Wakiso District. The President was accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni.

Earlier in the day, Museveni launched the construction of the Bukasa–Ssentema–Kakiri Road, a 12.7-kilometer project worth Shs 56 billion being built by the Chinese firm CICO. The road is expected to be completed within 18 months, improving connectivity in the district.

“When the NRM took over Kampala, many roads like the Northern Bypass, Entebbe Expressway, and Kasangati Road did not exist. These projects benefit all Ugandans, but infrastructure alone cannot improve lives without increased household income,” Museveni said, urging leaders to focus on income generation for families.

He highlighted Uganda’s job creation progress, noting that the industrial sector has generated 1.2 million jobs, the public sector 480,000 jobs, agriculture 3.6 million jobs, and services over 5 million jobs. “Wealth creation is central. Every household should be part of this growth, either as owners or workers,” the President added.

Addressing concerns from religious and community leaders about limited funding under the Parish Development Model, especially in urban areas with larger populations, Museveni assured that the initial Shs 100 million allocation per parish was just a start. “We will increase funding to urban centers where the needs are higher,” he promised.

The Parish Development Model aims to transform subsistence households into participants in the money economy by providing financial resources and services directly to parishes—the smallest administrative units in Uganda.

Leaders from the Nansana Ghetto Structure praised the President for supporting 12 ghetto structures in the Kampala Metropolitan Area, which has boosted their small businesses and economic prospects. “We have formed the Nansana Patriotic Movement to mobilize support for President Museveni and NRM candidates and to fight tribalism and religious divisions,” said Zziwa Hamza Kyeyune.

The rally was attended by key government officials, including the Government Chief Whip Hon. Denis Hamson Obua, Minister for Kampala Capital City Authority Hajat Minsa Kabanda, NRM Director of Mobilization Hon. Rosemary Sseninde, and others.

President Museveni’s tour is part of a nationwide effort to strengthen wealth creation programs and promote socio-economic transformation in Uganda.
