Parents of Sodomized Boy in Moroto Seek Protection After Arrest of School Staff

The parents of a 14-year-old boy who was allegedly sodomized at Child Jesus Nursery and Primary School in Moroto District say they fear for their safety after the arrest of two senior staff members linked to the case.

The suspects—a head teacher and a school warden—were taken into custody following reports that the boy was repeatedly abused at school. According to the victim’s father, Simon Peter Litomo, the head teacher warned the boy not to tell anyone and kept him from going home.

“My son was not allowed to go home. Only his twin brother could leave to get basic items,” Mr. Litomo said.

The parents claim they are being intimidated by some community members and church leaders, who accuse them of tarnishing the school’s image. They have asked for protection from security agencies, fearing possible revenge or harassment.

Local authorities have confirmed the arrests and say investigations are ongoing. The case has sparked public outrage, with calls for the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Ethics and Integrity to take action to protect children in boarding schools.

Child rights activists in Karamoja have also condemned the incident, demanding stricter enforcement of child protection laws and safe school policies. They say sexual abuse in schools often goes unreported due to stigma and fear of retaliation.

The Moroto District Security Committee is expected to discuss the case this week to ensure the safety of the victim’s family and prevent interference with investigations.
