Over 12,000 Young People to Benefit from East African Crude Oil Pipeline Project

More than 12,000 young people across four regions in Tanzania will benefit from a youth empowerment project linked to the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP).

The project, which is currently 65 percent complete, aims to provide training, jobs, and business opportunities to youth living near the pipeline route. It is expected to be finished by July 2026.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Doto Biteko, spoke at the project launch event held on August 18, 2025, in Bukombe District, Geita Region. He highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting youth through this initiative.

The Tanzanian government has already contributed 1.125 trillion Tanzanian shillings towards the project, demonstrating its importance to national development.

The EACOP project is a major infrastructure initiative that will transport crude oil from Uganda to the Tanzanian port of Tanga, creating economic opportunities for the region.

This youth empowerment program is part of efforts to ensure local communities benefit directly from the pipeline’s construction and operations.
