Manchester United has completed the signing of Swedish star Fridolina Rolfö on a two-year contract, marking a major addition to their women’s team ahead of the new Women’s Super League (WSL) season.
The 31-year-old forward joins as a free agent following a mutual termination of her contract with FC Barcelona, which was set to expire in 2026. Her departure ends a highly successful four-year spell with the Spanish giants.
Rolfö’s resume is among the most decorated in women’s football. During her time at Barcelona, she won:
4 Liga F titles
2 UEFA Women’s Champions League trophies
Scored 40 goals in 131 appearances
Before her stint in Spain, she enjoyed successful spells at Wolfsburg, Bayern Munich, and Linköpings FC in Sweden. Across her club career, she has amassed over 313 senior appearances and 113 goals.
Rolfö said the decision to join United was driven by her admiration for the Women’s Super League.
“The WSL is probably the strongest league in the world right now,” she said. “I have been fortunate to enjoy success at Barcelona and other clubs I’ve played for, and now I want the same at Manchester United.”
The move also reunites Rolfö with several familiar faces from her international career, as well as former league rivals.
A key figure for the Sweden national team, Rolfö recently earned her 100th international cap during UEFA Women’s Euro 2025. She has scored 33 goals for her country and has featured in multiple World Cups and European Championships.
Rolfö is Manchester United’s second major signing of the summer, following the arrival of midfielder Julia Zigiotti Olme from Bayern Munich in July. Manager Marc Skinner is believed to be targeting experienced players to bolster the squad for a Champions League campaign, following United’s third-place finish in last season’s WSL.
With domestic and continental ambitions growing, Rolfö’s leadership and European pedigree are expected to be crucial in United’s pursuit of silverware.
