Manchester United Go All In: £74m Bid for Benjamin Šeško Signals Striker Shake-Up

Manchester United have officially made a bold offer to sign RB Leipzig’s young star striker Benjamin Šeško, as they attempt to rebuild their attack for the 2025/26 Premier League season.

The 22-year-old Slovenian international has caught the eyes of Europe’s biggest clubs after scoring 39 goals in 87 matches for Leipzig. United’s offer is €85 million (£73.8m) in total, with €75 million guaranteed (£65.2m) and the rest in performance-based bonuses.

Standing at 6ft 5in, Šeško is known for his strength, aerial ability, and sharp finishing. He scored 16 goals in 41 games last season and is seen by many at Old Trafford as a natural fit to lead the line — especially after the club’s recent attacking struggles.

Manchester United believes Šeško is interested in the move, which is why they felt confident in submitting a formal bid to Leipzig. Newcastle United also made an offer, but it was turned down, leaving United in a strong position.
To make room for Šeško, Rasmus Højlund — who joined United with high expectations — could be leaving the club this summer. It’s a major shift in strategy as Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who now oversees football operations at United, pushes for a more efficient and effective team.

Despite earlier financial warnings from Ratcliffe that the club could be in financial trouble by Christmas without cost-cutting, United are managing their funds smartly:

The £130 million spent on Matheus Cunha (from Wolves) and Bryan Mbeumo (from Brentford) is being paid in instalments.
Marcus Rashford’s full £325,000-per-week salary is now being covered by his loan move to Barcelona.
United received £5 million from Chelsea after they backed out of a deal for Jadon Sancho.
They’ve also earned over £15 million from sell-on clauses for players like Anthony Elanga, Álvaro Carreras, and Maxi Oyedele.

This careful financial planning has given United enough room to pursue Šeško without risking financial instability.

The ball is now in RB Leipzig’s court. Manchester United are waiting for a response, confident that their offer reflects Šeško’s value — and hopeful that the striker sees his future in the Premier League wearing red.
If this deal goes through, it could mark a turning point in United’s rebuild under Ratcliffe’s leadership — and perhaps a new era for their attack.
